Study for Crying Girl

The Crying Girl in 1964 sketch was adapted from a 1963 comic strip panel: Secret Hearts, no. 88 (June 1963), DC Comics.

This small-scale drawings is not a sketch or study in the traditional art historical sense, but rather it acted as the initial stage in a process that resulted in his large-scale paintings. Lichtenstein would use works such as Sleeping Girl (Study) to determine the composition and color of his painting.

This is a unique work. Hand-signed by the artist on the bottom right hand corner.
