Oh, Jeff…I Love You, Too…But… is among the most famous of his early romance comic derivative works from the period when he was adapting cartoons and advertisements into his style. The work is said to depict the classic romance-comic story line of temporary adversity. Lichtenstein’s sketch for this was done in graphite and colored pencils on paper in a 5 2/5″ × 5 4/5″ inches (13.7 x 13.7 cm) scale.
This small-scale drawing is not a sketch or study in the traditional art historical sense, but rather it acted as the initial stage in a process that resulted in his large-scale paintings.
